Minutes: April 22nd, 2008
 

The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman William Rofkar on April 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.  Present were William Rofkar, Robert Schroeder, Gary Mortus, Pat Cerny, Matt Montowski, Jack DeVore and Dennis Murray, Sandusky City Commissioner.  The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting seconded by Gary Mortus.  Motion carried unanimously.  Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $49,770.64 including the last payroll seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Gary Mortus, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye, William Rofkar, aye.

Correspondence included a thank you from Ottawa County Job & Family Services for showing interest in their work experience program.  Invitation to 2008 Police Memorial Day Ceremony on May 22; meeting on May 6th in regard to revisions to the Lodging Excise Tax at the courthouse; Ottawa County Sheriff’s office February month-end report; resolution from the American Legion requesting a donation for Memorial Day celebration.  Complaint letter from Brian Junkins, 3590 N. Surfside Drive, in regard to Virginia Zafru’s unsightly accessory structure and her junk pile. 

Matt Montowski introduced himself and stated he has an interest in being on one of the zoning boards and he is looking for the Trustee’s approval.  Mr. Dennis Murray stated he has been on the Sandusky City Commission and he is running for Chris Redfern’s s seat.

Robert Schroeder stated he built three blue bird houses and put them in Cedar Meadows.

William Rofkar stated a letter will be sent to Mrs. Zafru and William Rofkar will take a look at the property.  Pat Cerny stated Robert Rogers will help Mrs. Zafru clean up the junk pile.   Gary Mortus made a motion to approve $200 for a memorial contribution to the American Legion seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Gary Mortus, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye. 

William Rofkar stated he will look into the Job and Family Service program and report back in regard to how the employees are supervised.

Robert Schroeder stated he is very happy with our new maintenance employee Ted Day and the other Trustees agreed. 

William Rofkar stated he did more research on the materials for use under the playground equipment and he cannot find anything that states that it has to be handicapped accessible material.  He would like to use sand or pea gravel.  He will look into this further.

Gary Mortus made a motion to appoint Matt Montowski as an alternate to the Zoning Commission for a term of one year seconded by Robert Rogers and Sandi Erwin as an alternate to the Board if Zoning Appeals for a term of one year seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Gary Mortus, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Motion carried unanimously.
