Minutes: April 27th, 2004
 

     Catawba Island Township Trustees held their regular meeting in the conference room on April 27,2004 with all present; also Pat Cerny, James Stouffer, James Sass, Gregory Gettum and Kate Botti.

     Chairman Robert Schroeder opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to approve the minutes of the last meeting as submitted and to be posted.  All voted aye.  William Rofkar made a motion to pay the bills in the amount of $55,435.79.  Gary Mortus seconded and the vote: R. Schroeder-aye, W. Rofkar-aye, G. Mortus-aye.

Correspondence is letter from Grace Chase regarding family plot in the Cemetery, Erie Insurance Group including release for Robert Maloy claim, Hylant HAS Claims Service requesting check for $1000.00 deductible under “Public Officials Liability Coverage” portion of policy,  Ottawa County Engineer’s 2003 annual report,  State check of $41,768.27 for rollbacks of Real Estate Taxes, Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation asking for work site visit,  Virginia Park regarding gas tax and next County meeting to be August 26, 2004 and  Put-in-Bay Police Department hosting the Annual Police Memorial Service on Thursday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, 

                Greg Gettum, Marketing Manager of  Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, presented the annual report and explained the services of TMACOG and what they do for the Townships.

        Jim Sass, Portage Township Trustees, stated their Township has been  a member of TMACOG since 1980 and used their services when sewers were installed in Portage Township. Townships whether big or small have equal say in matters and being they border Port Clinton who is a member felt it would be to their advantage to be a member.

      Gary Mortus asked what is expected of a member and the dues for Catawba Island Township?

Greg stated being at the table you are involved in making decisions and the dues would be $1467.00 per year.   Presented each Trustee and Clerk a Directory of Local Public Officials.

       Jim Stouffer updated progress of the CIC project .  Talked to County Engineer about doing something on the corner of Barnum Road and Northwest Catawba Road similar to the corner of Beach Club Road at no cost to the Township.  Talked to Barnes but are waiting for property to get drier before moving the trees and asked  if the white flags are where the trees are to be placed?

     Bob Schroeder advised the flags mark the area of the “Prairie”.

Jim stated everything at the corner of Beach Club Road should be done by Memorial Day. The golf course man is about finished with his work.

      Pat Cerny stated since the Community Hall is being booked already for next year if clean-up days could be set in advance.  Board agreed  fall cleanup will be October 18 thru October 24 and next spring will be May 2 thru May 8, 2005.

     Gary Mortus asked about hiring someone this summer to make a survey of the old Cemetery by recording owner and burials on each plot so it could be put on the computer.  Board agreed but has no one in mind yet.

     Clerk stated talking to Anthem Blue Cross direct about Todd Parkison’s insurance and was advised  the effective date is when application is received and not date of hire. 

A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to pay the invoice for $400.00 for claims that Todd Parkison had in January  when he was not covered by insurance.  All voted aye.

     Robert Schroeder made a motion to appoint Douglas Blackburn as a regular member of the Board of Zoning Appeals to finish the term of Robert Gibbons ending December 31, 2008.  Gary Mortus seconded the motion and the vote:  R. Schroeder-aye, W. Rofkar-aye, G. Mortus-aye.

    A motion was made by Robert Schroeder and seconded by William Rofkar to adjourn to executive session to discuss legal matters with Attorney Joan Szuberla and also a personel matter. All voted aye.

     Gary Mortus made a motion to reconvene to regular session.  William Rofkar seconded and all voted aye

     Robert Schroeder made a motion to increase the rate of pay fifty cents per hour for David Behrens effective April 26, 2004. Gary Mortus seconded the motion and all voted aye.

      A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to proceed with serving a violation notice of a junk vehicle to Stephen Toth, 4608 Peachton Drive.  All voted aye.

      A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to adjourn.  All voted aye.
