Minutes: May 11th, 2004
 

     Business meeting of the Catawba  Island Township Trustees was held May 11, 2004 in the conference room with all present; also Pat Cerny, James Stouffer, Jonathon Heigel, Jerome McTague, Kate Botti.

     Chairman Robert Schroeder opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as submitted  and to be posted.  All voted aye.  A motion was made by William Rofkar and seconded by Gary Mortus to pay bills in the amount of $22,828.13.  All voted aye.

Correspondence included letter from Mark Mulligan thanking the Township for the contribution to combat drug abuse, Sanitary Engineer Kelley Frey regarding clean up and restoration of  dig sites by the Corrpro Company,  Ottawa Regional Planning Commission regarding North Pointe Subdivision and one regarding vacation and re-plat of a portion of Cedar Lane in Gem Beach,  Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments  stating annual membership dues of $1467.00,  F.S.I. Disposal confirming dates of October 18 thru October 24 for fall clean-up and  Frank Gates Service Co., Ohio Township Association, Professional Risk Management and Care Works all regarding 2004 MCO open enrollment.

      Zoning Inspector Pat Cerny reminded the Board of the public Zoning Hearing on May 25 at 7:00 p.m. to rezone the property at 3147 Northeast Catawba Road  for a proposed use  as  a subdivision with retail and office space requested by Ohio Shore Development, Ltd., Mansfield.

      Gary Mortus stated his concern is  golf carts and skooters going on private property but guess the Township can do nothing to prevent it and guess it would be up to property owner.

      William Rofkar asked about the mulch loading on Saturday mornings and Board agreed to continue all of May and June.  Will check with Bob Rogers as to how long it will be before he can get his property cleared thru the Court and then set a date for an auction.  Need soffits repaired on this building and Bob will contact an aluminum company to do the whole building.  Presented information on a pump for the pond like the one at Marsh’s Edge which will be under $3000.00 for the whole project.

       A motion was made by William Rofkar and seconded by Gary Mortus  to purchase  the pump from Catawba Leasing & Rental with total cost including installation not to exceed $3000.00.  All voted aye.

        Jerome McTague introduced himself as a candidate for Ottawa County Coroner and stated he is an ER Physician at Memorial Hospital and a malpractice Attorney.

         Clerk stated there is a problem with a drain in the parking lot at The Point and Bob will check whether it is the Townships or on private property.  Stated Dorothy Fritz is interested in the job at the Cemetery.

         Robert Schroeder made a motion to hire Dorothy Fritz to do an inventory of the old Cemetery by recording owner and burials on each lot at rate of $10.70 per hour.   William Rofkar seconded  the motion and the vote:  R. Schroeder-aye, W. Rofkar-aye, G. Mortus-aye.

       Bob Schroeder talked to Richard McLaughlin and he will be doing the work for the Prairie. Had proposal from Masonry Construction to repair trench drain located West of Administration Building.

      A motion was made by Robert Schroeder and seconded by Gary Mortus to award contract to Masonry Construction Company to repair trench drain located West of building in Police Department drive for the amount of $1574.00.  All voted aye.

      Brush pick-up will be every other week and there will be one more time to pick up leaves.

   A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to adjourn.  All voted aye.
