Minutes: May 22nd, 2007
 

The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by vice chairman Robert Schroeder at 7:30 p.m. on May 22, 2007 in the conference room.  Present:  Robert Schroeder, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny, Jack DeVore, Randy Riedmaier, Jeff Hickman, Reggie Langford, Meredith Beck, Mark Shieldcastle and John Smothers.

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.  William Rofkar made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting seconded by Robert Schroeder; all voted aye.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $48,295.19 which includes the payroll seconded by William Rofkar.  All voted aye.

Correspondence included Application for Standard Government Headstone or Marker for Dana Edmonds, Ottawa Lucas County FSA Office in regard to August 3, 2007 final day for signing up for annual farm program, Time Warner Cable, stating an error in the notification of channel changes, Safety Comm Solutions, free pipeline training, Hylant Group would like the township to act on the risk management recommendations and there is a $2,685.00 surcharge on our policy that could be removed if this is acted on. 

 

Bid opening for the Heigel Park Restroom Project:  Molnar Construction:  Utility installation; $54,904.00.  Ken Gill Construction:  Utility installation; $32,150.00.

 

Correspondence included Hylant Group asking for action on risk management recommendations; Time Warner, channel change notification correction; Ottawa Lucas County FSA Office reminder of sign up for annual farm program.

 

Randy Riedmaier presented the Catawba Island Township Trustees a plaque from the Sheriffs Department thanking them for their support and donations with the Marine Patrol and can also provide a report on what they do.  The Trustees also thanked the Marine Patrol.

 

Meredith Beck accompanied by Mark Shieldcastle was in attendance to discuss the Management Plan for the Cedar Preserve.  There are three segments to the plan.   It is in regard to trails, grants, maintenance, invasive species, etc.  There are ten sections in the preserve and Meredith Beck has a map in regard to the sections.  Robert Schroeder stated we should look at this when Gary Mortus is present.

 

Reggie Langford stated all is set for the dedication on Saturday, May 26.  William Rofkar thanked Reggie for all his work on the Veteran’s Memorial. 

 

William Rofkar made a motion to award the underground utility bid for the Heigel Park Restroom to Ken Gill Construction, $32,150.00, seconded by Robert Schroeder.  All voted aye.  William Rofkar stated he will need a check for $17,360.42 for the County Sanitary Engineer for grinder pump and fees and hardware.  William Rofkar made a motion to approve the amount of $17,360.42 for the County Sanitary Engineer for the permit, fees, grinder pump and any other fees.  Robert Schroeder stated he would like to see this cost reduced or not do the project.  Robert is totally against it.  William Rofkar stated it will delay the project if we have to wait.  Robert Schroeder stated if Gary Mortus calls him tells him to vote for this he will, otherwise he will not.  William Rofkar called Gary  Mortus on his cell phone in regard to the $17,360.42 fee and Gary discussed this with Robert and Robert Schroeder seconded, but Gary and Robert will meet with the commissioners again in regard to this cost.  All voted aye.  William Rofkar made a motion to award the building to Norwalk Concrete Industries for $38,375.00, the bid price, and an additional air hand dryer and exhaust fans (required by the county)  would increase the bid to $40,000.00 seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Robert Schroeder will vote yes with very bad feelings.  All voted aye.  William Rofkar, aye, Robert Schroeder, aye.

 

Robert Schroeder stated the county has a foam trailer at this time for the fire departments to use.  It will be stored in Port Clinton. 

 

Pat Cerny stated the Bolte Realty sign on Route 53 has not been moved 60 feet off of the right of way and he has one week to move it or the permit will be revoked.  Pat will also contact Mark Mulligan.  Spring Clean Up week will be April 28 through May 4, 2008 and the fall Clean Up will be October 13 through October 19, 2008. 

William Rofkar made a motion for adjournment seconded by Robert Schroeder.  All voted aye.
