Correspondence included letter from Prosecuting Attorney regarding Fire Insurance Proceeds including copy of a Resolution and  section of Ohio Revised Code, Ottawa County Commissioners  thank-you for submitting proposed White Paper Projects, Catawba Island Club in reference to a sound consultant First Communications regarding long distance service,  Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield stating termination of present “trust” contract on June 30 and enclosing the new fully insured master contract, effective July 1 and schedule of new rates and Attorney Bonnie D. Michael regarding public safety at Gem Beach.

Becky Swisher from Hylant Administrative Services  explained the Fire Insurance Proceeds referred to in the letter from the Prosecuting Attorney. Presented copy of Ohio Plan and explained the insurance proposal and coverage at cost of $54,577.00 for period June 15, 2004 to June 15, 2005.

Ted Athanas,  of the West Harbor Yacht  Club, presented  drawings showing the three lots owned by West Harbor Yacht Club and now they have been informed by the Ottawa County Building Department that we are too close to the property line of an empty lot.  Informed them that this little triangular lot 18 which was cut off when the road was changed is a buildable lot.  Talked to County Engineer and he said the road was changed in 1972 and Pat presented the drawing  of when the road was relocated.

Gary Mortus stated the two lots have the same owner and they could be tied to together to make one buildable lot but the Building Inspector is requiring a fire wall because a home could be built some day. If it is deemed an unbuildable lot then a fire wall is not required.

Jon Schaefer stated guess we will have to take it to Columbus to get the Board of Building Standard’s approval that we can continue to build on our existing foot print with no fire wall because there is no house or building on this lot at this time being the road  was repotted and took part of the lot. Stated the steel is all fabricated and ready to go.

Gary stated they do not want to do anything to jeopardize your building and will try to be more helpful.

Bob Schroeder told Kate Botti about getting into it with the editor of the News Herald about the letter that was printed  comparing Catawba Island  to a toilet. Kate Botti stated her write-up of the minutes is not always printed as submitted.

William Rofkar had some quotes on electrical connections for the pump in the pond  and talked to Bob Snyder  about what he would recommend but hate to drag this out.

Bob Schroeder stated maybe would not need a transformer and will check further if it is needed.  Firemen put fish in the pond.

Bill asked about the wiring and will check it out and if we do need it will cost $800.00 at the most.

Gary Mortus asked if Robert Fic should be moved to a regular member of the Zoning Commission but Board agreed to wait if anyone else is interested in becoming a member.

Clerk received call from Roger Fair asking if something could be done about the dust created from the road to the mulch pile and was advised oil is ordered but cannot do it until it stops raining for three days.

Dan suggested having Dorothy Fritz do the rest of the Cemetery and Board agreed on it and also to have her put it on the computer. Asked about Frank Gates Service Company contract for another year. Authorized to transfer $100,000.00  to Star Ohio for investment

A motion was made by William Rofkar and seconded by Gary Mortus to take Todd Parkison off probation period and increase his rate of pay $1.00 per hour effective July 1, 2004.  All voted aye.

Robert Schroeder stated at the car accident Saturday how professional the firefighters acted and the cooperation  and team work made every-thing go  so smooth.  Stated the door on the maintenance building is not right and Masonry Construction should make it right before being paid.  Asked about advertising if it can be done in the Beacon rather than the News Herald.

Gary stated he thinks it has to be in a daily paper and asked Clerk to check how much News Herald was paid last year for advertising.

Bob presented a quote from Peters Aluminum for replacing vinyl soffit system at cost of $3000.00.

A motion was made by Robert Schroeder and seconded by Gary Mortus to award contract to Peters Aluminum to replace the vinyl soffit system on the Administration Building at cost of $3000.00.  The vote: R. Schroeder-aye, W. Rofkar-aye, G. Mortus-aye.

Gary Mortus made a motion to enter into contract with Frank Gates Service Company to obtain the group rating for Workers’ Compensation with fee of $2394.00.  William Rofkar seconded and all voted aye

A motion was made by Gary Mortus and seconded by William Rofkar to award contract to DeAngelo Bros. For vegetation control at Rock Ledge and the boat ramp.  All voted aye.
