Minutes: August 28th, 2007

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.  Present were Gary Mortus, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny, James Stouffer, Mrs. Speier and Martin Joyce.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the previous minutes seconded by William Rofkar.  Gary Mortus, aye; William Rofkar, aye.  William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $68,133.78 seconded by Gary Mortus.  William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.

Correspondence included re-evaluation of the use of mulch as a base in the playground areas in Heigel Park from T.N. Turley; Mike Simonis, Sales Manager of Gem Beach Marina requesting closing off Basin Street for their annual boat show; Firelands Medical Center regarding our random drug testing program; Tary Laleyk, 3932 Kirk Dr., voicing concern about the condition of a home at 3931 Kirk Dr.  A letter will be written to the owner. The Snowex Team, regarding snow removal equipment; Patrick Adkins and Debbie Hymore-Tester requesting payment for the agreed amount of $5531.00 pledged by the township for the COPS program; Jim Shelley from Jenotta & Herner regarding their Christmas in July program; U.S. Census participation request that will be handled by Walter Wehenkel.

Mrs. Speier and Martin Joyce from Gem Beach stated they are still needing one  more signature for the improvements to the storm drainage in Gem Beach.  The project will also have to be re-bid.

James Stouffer explained his retention and detention ponds and gave an overview of the forthcoming project. 

William Rofkar stated we will begin mulch loading on Saturdays in September. Chairs for the Community Hall can be purchased from Dupps Printing for $18.95 per chair.  About seventy-five are needed.  William Rofkar made a motion to purchase new chairs not to exceed $2000.00 seconded by Gary Mortus.  William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, Aye.  Gary Mortus would also like to get a price on round tables. 

Gary Mortus stated he talked to Nextell for replacement phones and upgrades.
