Minutes: September 11th, 2007
 

The regular meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room on September 11, 2007.  Present were Gary Mortus, Robert Schroeder, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny and Reggie Langford.  The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

William Rofkar made a motion to accept the minutes of the August 28, 2007 meeting seconded by Robert Schroeder.  William Rofkar, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye;  Gary Mortus, aye.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to accept and pay the bills in the amount of $40,285.27 including the payroll seconded by William Rofkar.  Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.

David Brunkhorst, Ottawa County Engineer, bids for striping program awarded to Mar-King Construction for the lowest bid of $119, 916.74 and Catawba’s portion is estimated at $4567.80.  Workmen’s Compensation stating they will reduce our rates; Montgomery County Auditor requesting refund of interest money from the estate of Barbara Kohls in the amount of $239.92; weed complaint from Donald Gresbach, Ballard Homeowners

Association regarding Kunkel parcel on East Charles Lane.  Pat Cerny stated the weeds have been cut.  Letter to Robert Rogers from Attorney John Kocher, copied to the Trustees, in regard to Polaris Ranger UTV Vehicle used at Catawba Leasing Company.

Reggie Langford questioned the status of the school property and Gary Mortus stated Pat

Adkins, Superintendent, stated after everything is removed from the building sometime this fall, the building will be put up for auction.  An update is needed. 

William Rofkar stated the Heigel Park restroom will arrive on Friday September 14th.

Dan Barlow talked with the Nextell representative to upgrade the township cell phones.  Eight phones will be replaced;  $105.00 per phone.  Dan Barlow will be reimbursed for using his personal cell phone as his township phone was not operable.  Dan Barlow also stated Adkins Sanitation televised the drain tile on Charles Lane as it is a perforated tile and roots are growing right through the tile and there are two breaks.    A price will be needed to run a pipe through the pipe.  

Dan Barlow also stated he attended a meeting in regard to the warning sirens and instead of a county wide alert, it will be centralized to where the problem is at.  If it is at the east end, only the east end sirens will sound.  The National Weather states a fifteen minute warning is the advanced notice. 

Robert Schroeder stated he is receiving complaints that people are taking the fish out of the township pond and keeping them and not releasing them.  The township will contact the extension agent and ask their opinion as the pond could overpopulate.  Robert Schroeder asked if James Stouffer is going to put a barrier between the golf course and the cemetery.  William Rofkar stated when the project is near finish, some landscaping will be added to that area for a break. 

Pat Cerny stated there have been five golf cart citations issued since the last meeting.

Pat Cerny received the Ottawa County Budget Commission’s approval of the distribution of the Local Government monies for 2008.  Catawba’s share of these monies will be $33,093.91.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to pass a resolution accepting the amounts and rates adopted by the Budget Commission of Ottawa County and authorizing the necessary tax levies  and certifying them to the township seconded by William Rofkar..

Gary Mortus stated the township looks great and everyone is doing a great job. 

Gary Mortus stated a  written brush policy will need to be written as our curb-side pick-up is getting out of hand.
