Minutes: November 13th, 2007
 

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. on November 13, 2007 in the conference room.  Present were Gary Mortus, Robert Schroeder, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny and Jack DeVore.  The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting seconded by William Rofkar.  Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $64,959.87 including the payroll seconded by William Rofkar.  William Rofkar questioned the warrant for a police officer’s vest.  The part-time officer did not receive a uniform allowance and in the past the vests were paid for by the township.  Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye. 

Communications included Columbia Gas information on riser safety and if needed, Columbia Gas will replace the risers at their expense.  Anthem, announcing Mercy Health Partners will join the Anthem network of participating hospitals; Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce newsletter; note from Charlie and Clara Maggs thanking Dan Barlow for his hard work.  Michael Whittman, Ottawa County Engineer’s office, copy of the request for price quotes that were mailed to contractors for the Carolina Street project; Steve Wagner, Ottawa County Sanitary Engineering Department enclosing the recorded easement document that was needed for the county to take over the maintenance of the grinder pump at Heigel Park.  Liquor transfer for South Passage; Pat Cerny stated she spoke with Scott Market in regard to this and he stated they are relocating the liquor license from the Point Bar to the gift shop so they do not lose the license.  There will be a carry- out and possibly a small bar and snack bar that will close at 9:30p.m.  County Fire Protection Inc. with prices for new fire extinguishers and service. 

William Rofkar stated the restroom is open and keys will be provided to the Trustees.

Robert Schroeder stated a police cruiser was totaled and the township received $5669.17.  A new police cruiser is tentatively on order for $28,485.99 equipped with cage and light bar.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to purchase the cruiser in the amount of $28,485.99 from Statewide Emergency Products seconded by William Rofkar.  Robert Schroeder, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.  Robert Schroeder received three bids on the chapel re-roof.  Deemer Roofing, $15,500, Northcoast, $14,508.50 and Gottron Construction, $11,150 with a 50% down payment.  Thirty year shingles.  Wood replacement would be extra.  Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the estimate and award Gottron Construction the bid for the re-roof of the chapel seconded by Robert Schroeder.  William Rofkar, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.  The new pumper/hose truck has arrived.  Gary Mortus stated he is not in favor of paying for the truck at this time if the truck has some minor glitches.  The total price of the truck is more than the purchase order was made out for.  There were three contract change orders.  Gary Mortus stated if would be nice if the Fire Department paid the difference.  The overage is $2616.88.  William Rofkar stated the check should only be written for the bid price and sort out the extras at a later date. A warrant for $111,175.00  will be issued for the next Trustee’s meeting. 

Gary Mortus will attend the next Zoning Commission meeting to discuss the possibilities of a future Planned Unit Development.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the expenses including mileage for any Trustees
and the Fiscal Officer to attend the Ohio Township Association Winter Conference and Trade Show in January 2008 seconded by Robert Schroeder.  Robert Schroeder, aye;

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the transfer of the South Passage liquor license without requesting a hearing seconded by Robert Schroeder.  William Rofkar, aye; Robert Schroeder, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.
