Minutes: December 26th, 2006
 

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room with all present.  Also present:  Pat Cerny, Jack DeVore, Reggie Langford and Dr. Smothers.  The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 12, 2006 meeting seconded by Robert Schroeder.  All voted aye.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to accept and pay the bills in the amount of $47,297.95 seconded by William Rofkar.  All voted aye.

Correspondence included Time Warner Cable in regard to agreements with programmers; Janotta & Herner, “Christmas in July” program; thank you from Fellhauer Mechanical; letter from Pat Adkins and Debbie Hymore-Tester regarding the “Cops in School Program” explaining the cost split among the city and townships.

 

John Smothers presented the main entrance signage for the preserve.  Two signs would total $1,400.00.

 

Reggie Langford has sent out letters to veteran’s organizations requesting help from them and some other prominent people for his project.

 

William Rofkar stated the Maintenance Department will be doing some cleaning in the Administration building and any repairs that need to be done.  Gary Mortus suggested having Young’s Flooring come in and give a price on carpet for the Police Station.

 

William Rofkar made a motion that we approve the contract with the “Cops in School” program with a three-year commitment as stated in their letter, this year being $4,531.00.  Gary Mortus seconded.  William Rofkar, aye, Gary Mortus, aye, Robert Schroeder, nay.  Motion Carries.

 

Gary Mortus stated we have the paperwork for the Gem Beach drainage and the mylar must be signed so it can be put out for bids.  We also have the easements to secure for the property owners.  We will contact the property owners for signatures.

 

Robert Schroeder made a motion seconded by William Rofkar to hire Rhonda Bodie to help Pat Cerny close out the 2005 township year at a rate of $16.00 an hour.  All voted aye.  A motion was also made by William Rofkar and seconded by Robert Schroeder to approve supplemental appropriations as state on the appropriation ledger and presented and signed by the Trustees.  All voted aye.

 

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn seconded by Robert Schroeder at 7:55 p.m.  All voted aye.

 

Reorganizational Meeting – 2007

 

Gary Mortus called the Reorganizational Meeting for the year 2007 to order with all present.  Gary Mortus turned the meeting over the assistant clerk to run the election of the Trustees.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to keep Gary Mortus as the chairman of the Board of Trustees and retain Robert Schroeder as vice-chairman.  William Rofkar seconded.  All voted aye.  Gary Mortus will be in charge of Zoning, Robert Schroeder will be in charge of Police and Fire and William Rofkar will be in charge of Roads and Cemetery and Maintenance.  The Trustees meeting will remain on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

 

Inventories will need to be completed by all Departments and submitted to the County Engineer.

 

Dale VanLerberghe’s term on the board of Zoning Appeals expires.  Robert Schroeder made a motion seconded by William Rofkar to appoint Dale VanLerberghe for another five-year term.  All voted aye.  Paul Shaw’s term expires on the Zoning Commission.  William Rofkar made a motion seconded by Robert Schroeder to appoint Paul Shaw for another five-year term.  All voted aye.  Zoning salaries will remain the same. 

 

The Dependents Board of the Fire Department consists of Ron Bauman.  Citizen member John Gangway and Jeff Kennedy, department member.  William Rofkar made a motion to appoint Gary Mortus and Robert Schr4oeder to the Board seconded by Gary Mortus.  All voted aye.  A meeting date should be set up with Dan Barlow.

 

Zoning fees will remain the same except for rezoning and amendment requests will increase to $250.00.  The fee for the addition of contiguous land to an existing Planned Unit Development will be $300.00 for acreage and for one to fifty units, an additional $100.00 and so on up to $1000.00 maximum.  There was discussion on the homes on the barges in regard to dock fees.  Additional changes for fees can be made at a later date.

 

The Police Department employees clothing allowance will remain the same.  William Rofkar made a motion to give the Police Department a 3% wage increase seconded by Robert Schroeder.  All voted aye.  Robert Schroeder made a motion to give the Maintenance Department employees and Pat Cerny a 3% wage increase seconded by William Rofkar.  All voted aye.

 

The Cemetery fees and the Community Hall fees will remain the same.

 

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn seconded by Robert Schroeder.  All voted aye.
