Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

October 8, 2013

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, October 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve the September 24 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $62,433.91. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter from Kevin Johnson requesting use of the Community Hall for a family gathering on November 2, 2013.

The Trustees agreed Kevin Johnson could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from Beth Leggett, American Red Cross, requesting a shelter agreement renewal for use of the Community Hall in the event of a disaster.

A postcard from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources announcing Environmental Grant Workshops in October and Coastal Management Assistance Grant applications now available.

An invitation to a 2013 Erie County Pavement Preservation Lunch and Learn at the Perkins Township Service Facility on November 13 being presented by Strawser Construction, Inc. and Terry Asphalt Materials, Inc.

A letter from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services regarding the program integrity provisions of a new Ohio unemployment compensation law to take effect October 21, 2013.

A letter from the Ottawa County Board of DD requesting completion of a survey.

A letter from the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office regarding rock salt prices. The 2013-2014 season rock salt contract was awarded to Morton Salt.

An email from Diane Belden regarding the Wreaths Across America Program and request to include event information and a program link on the township website.


Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the September financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adopt a Resolution certifying the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies for the fiscal year commencing January 1, 2014. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote: Gary Mortus, aye; Matt Montowski, aye; and William Rofkar, aye.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said they are making repairs in house on the leaf vacuum.

Dan Barlow said they will stop picking up brush November 1 and begin leaf pick up at that time.

A brief discussion took place regarding monitoring the compost facility use in the future.

Dan Barlow asked the Trustees for use of the Community Hall on November 10 for the annual Marine Corp birthday celebration.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were a total of fourteen permits and one variance issued for the month of September with a total of $1,381.32 collected in fees.

New Business

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the Emergency Shelter Contract with the Ottawa County American Red Cross utilizing the Community Hall in the event of a disaster.
William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

The Trustees agreed the Community Hall will be open for walkers after Election Day, November 5.

The Trustees set Trick or Treat for Thursday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion.
All voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
