Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

November 26, 2013


The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, November 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the November 12 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $56,156.37. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.


Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A thank you note from Ernie and Ann Washington expressing their appreciation for the help and kindness of the Catawba Island Police Department. A monetary donation for the police department was enclosed.

A letter from James Zafirau requesting an extension to his zoning permit to complete work on his shed.

The Trustees granted James Zafirau an extension to July 1, 2014 to complete work on the shed.

A memo from the Solid Waste District regarding township Christmas Tree Recycling.

A memo from the Solid Waste District regarding recycling service schedule for the holidays.

Two letters from Joe Gerber of the Ottawa Regional Planning Commission. The first letter was regarding the preliminary plat of Lot 13 and 14, West Catawba Lagoons, Plat. The second letter was regarding the Catawba Meadows Subdivision, Section 3, Lot 2.

A memo from Joe Gerber regarding grant opportunities for townships and municipalities.

A letter from Sheila Powell, Executive Director of Joyful Connections, requesting a contribution to help support their operations. Joyful Connections offers both supervised visitations and supervised exchanges to children and their families.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway requested approval of a probationary CIVFD member application.

Bill Rofkar made a motion to approve Phaedra Martel-Szabo as a probationary fire fighter. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented quotes for waste removal in 2014 including spring and fall clean up service and containers serviced weekly at the community hall and township maintenance building.

William Rofkar made a motion to accept a three-year contract with Republic Services for weekly waste removal for township buildings and the spring and fall cleanup service. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said the leaf vacuum was repaired in house and additional parts have been ordered to have on hand for future repairs.

New Business

The Trustees agreed to move the final regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting for 2013 from Tuesday, December 24, to Monday, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. and discuss their annual reorganization items for 2014 at that time.

The Trustees agreed to continue membership with Ohio Public Entity Consortium for 2014. Plan rate adjustments and renewal rates for 2014 were discussed and approved.

A notice was received from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control regarding an application for change of corporate stock ownership of a liquor permit holder in Catawba Island Township.

Matt Montowski made a motion to waive any public hearing for the application in regard to permit No. 59295540010, Midway Marina Inc., DBA Midway Marine Mart Shopping Center. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

A brief discussion took place regarding commercial tree trimming contractors who leave brush along the curb for township maintenance personnel to clean up.

The Trustees agreed the township brush clean up program is intended for individual home owners cleaning their own property. Commercial contractors are expected to clean up and remove debris from job sites. Home owners will be informed of this intention if they call regarding brush left behind by commercial contractors.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
