Catawba Island Township Trustees held a special meeting Monday, May 12, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room of the administration building. The purpose of the work session was to discuss the yard waste recycling facility.
In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, Amy Drummer, Jarret Barnes, and Bob Schanz.
Jarret Barnes and Bob Schanz of Barnes Nursery presented the Trustees a proposal for operation of the township yard waste recycling facility. Barnes Nursery proposed to partner with Catawba Island Township to operate the township’s yard waste recycling facility as a transfer station instead of a Class IV composting site.
A discussion took place regarding operational services Barnes Nursery would provide. They highlighted the advantages of Barnes operating the site instead of the township. Bob Schanz said they are in the second year of successfully partnering with the City of Bellevue and operating their yard waste recycling facility.
Barnes Nursery offered three different proposals with varying costs dependant on the number of days of operation within a year and/or season.
No motions or decisions were made. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
