Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

August 12, 2014

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski on Tuesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Bob Rogers, Jack DeVore, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the July 22 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last two payrolls, in the amount of $66,158.71. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A thank you note from Joe and Cindy Thornton expressing their appreciation for the respect shown by a township maintenance employee working in the cemetery at the time of their recent visit.

A letter of thanks from Alex Thomas, on behalf of a group of individuals who play tennis in the mornings at Heigel Park, expressing their appreciation for the fine facility and excellent care given by township maintenance personnel. He also expressed appreciation for the brush pick up and excellent shape that the township facilities remain.

A letter from Cheryl Oberst requesting to sell back to the township graves 1 and 2 in Lot 2, Main Section 7 for the price paid of $650. The original Deed was enclosed.

Trustees agreed and signed a check for $650.

Notice from the United Way of Ottawa County for the Third Annual Summit on Aging to be held Friday, October 31, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Magruder Hospital.

Notification from the Ottawa County General Health District that $51,451.19 is to be included in the township budget for support of the General Health District for the fiscal year 2015.

The Ohio Plan Package Policy Book for the Policy Term June 15, 2014 to June 15, 2015.

The Ohio Plan member benefit brochure with the most up-to-date benefits and coverages.

The Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District Summer/Fall 2014 Newsletter.

The Ohio Utilities Protection Service 2013 Annual Report.

A letter from Lisa Dubbert of United Way of Ottawa County providing details of the 7th Annual Gem Beach Rocks event to be held Saturday, August 16 from noon until 8:00 p.m.



Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the July 2014 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the new landscaping project at the fire station is complete and the fireman statue for the dedication is in place. He said everything is ready for the Open House and 65th Commemoration planned for Saturday, August 16. John Gangway said special invitations were mailed out and the event was advertised in local newspapers.

Maintenance

Dan Barlow said he will look into the cost of repairing the tennis courts at Heigel Park, painting the chapel, and repairing the defroster on the one ton dump truck. Dan Barlow also said he will look into the lights near the boat launch ramp that were reported as not working.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were a total of ten permits and four variances issued for the month of July with a total of $1,523.84 collected in fees.

New Business

Gary Mortus made a motion to pass a Resolution authorizing Catawba Island Township to prepare and submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement and/or Local Transportation Improvement Program(s) and to execute contracts as required. Catawba Island Township is planning to make capital improvements to Schoolhouse Road, Cemetery Road, and other resurfacing. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Trustees signed a Township Request for Assistance (TRQ) from the Ottawa County Engineers Office for the 2015 resurfacing project and Ohio Public Works grant application.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion.
All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
