Meeting Minutes

August 25, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, August 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
John Gangway, Ernie Wylie, Diane Belden, Reggie Langford, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the August 11 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll in the amount of $42,332.88. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A letter and 2014 Annual Report from the Ohio Plan.

An invitation to the Ottawa County Farmers Union Annual Meeting to be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the American Legion in Elmore, Ohio.

An invitation from the Firelands Forum on Regional Economic Development presenting Regional Collaboration and Site Selection Insights Thursday, August 27, 2015 at BGSU Firelands.

The July – September 2015 Ohio LTAP Newsletter and various training offerings from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Notification from the Ottawa County Engineer that Morton was awarded the salt contract for this winter season. Prices are $55.64 a ton dumped and $58.64 a ton piled.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief John Gangway said the winning bidder picked up the old extraction equipment recently sold on govdeals.com. He said the new members have been fitted for new turnout gear. John Gangway also said one of the new members recently began EMT classes at EHOVE.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented an estimate for additional repairs required for the salt shed walls in the amount of $3,960 for both units ($1,980 per unit).

Dan Barlow presented proposals for grinding yard waste as well as flipping and relocated compost material south of current location: Barnes Nursery $7,750 and David Price Metal Services $5,350.

William Rofkar made a motion to contract with David Price Metal Services in the amount of $5,350 for grinding yard waste and moving material south of current location. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow presented proposals for rental of a Hyundai 740 Loader to be used during the road resurfacing project for moving the grindings. Rental for one month plus transportation: Southeastern $4,460 and Buck and Knobby Equipment Company $3,820.

Matt Montowski made a motion to enter into a rental agreement with Buck and Knobby Equipment Company for a Hyundai 740 Loader for one month including transportation for $3,820. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Dan Barlow said the roof and windshield have been added to the John Deere Gator.

Dan Barlow said they are working on coordinating communication with residents regarding the road resurfacing project to begin September 8 and run through September 18.

New Business

Matt Montowski said he and John Gangway attended the Ottawa County Hazardous Mitigation Plan meeting.

Matt Montowski made a motion to participate in the West Catawba Road Resurfacing and Safety Improvement Project with the Ottawa County Engineer’s Office with a financial commitment of $190,000. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
