Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

September 8, 2015

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow,
Ernie Wylie, Diane Belden, Reggie Langford, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the August 25 Public Hearing minutes and Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll in the amount of $50,887.90. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

The following correspondence was received by the township:

A thank you note from Evelyn Blosser expressing her appreciation to the police department for kindness shown to her and her husband through the years. Enclosed was a donation to the police department in the amount of $1,000.

A memo from the Solid Waste Management District regarding the recycling schedule for the week of Labor Day. Two additional containers are to be dropped for the holiday weekend.

A letter from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District regarding their 64th Annual Meeting and Banquet scheduled for September 23, 2015 at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds.

Fiscal

Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw presented the August 2015 financial reports and bank reconciliation. There were no questions or concerns.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said they have completed road crack sealing on Woodlands, The Valley, Beach Club, and Konker. They plan to start on Muggy Road in October and if time allows they will work on Twin Beach and Wine Cellar.

The road resurfacing project contracted through the county has begun.


Zoning

Matt Montowski said there were five zoning permits and one variance issued for the month of August with a total of $1,267.88 collected in fees.

New Business

Reggie Langford spoke about the gypsy moth problem and the possibility of aerial spraying
96 acres from Moores Dock Road to the point. He said cost to the township would be approximately $31,000 which would be 50% of the total cost.

Matt Montowski said the Trustees were approached by a resident about installing a street light at East Woodland Drive and NW Catawba Road. William Rofkar and Matt Montowski agreed they do not feel additional street lighting is necessary due to the close proximity of the Moores Dock Road light.

William Rofkar said Trustees will hold a work session with members of the CIVFD Thursday, September 10, at 7 p.m.

Trustees announced Trick or Treat on Catawba Island will be Saturday, October 31, from
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
