Meeting Minutes

November 22, 2016

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman William Rofkar on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were: William Rofkar, Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Jeff Kennedy, Jayce Kennedy, Richard Smetzer, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the November 8 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $103,206.32. The total includes a payment of $41,697 to The Kreimes Company for road repairs. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter from ISO, Insurance Services Office, regarding the recent Public Protection Classification (PPC) survey. ISO completed its analysis of the structural fire suppression delivery system provided in the community. John Gangway said the resulting classification establishes the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department in the top 15% out of 50,000 departments.

A notice from Dupps Printing informing their printing business will continue online after 45 years although they are closing the downtown store location.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway recommended hiring Devin Pollock as full-time police officer.

William Rofkar made a motion to accept the recommendation of Police Chief John Gangway and hire Devin Pollock as a full-time probationary police officer starting at $18 an hour plus benefits with a start date of December 12, 2016. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

John Gangway discussed several miscellaneous equipment items needed for the police department with a cost totaling approximately $1,600.

The Trustees approved purchase of the police equipment totaling approximately $1,600.

A lengthy discussion took place regarding golf carts.



Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow said a set of safety lights for $318 is needed for the one ton.

Dan Barlow said he is working on getting estimates for electrical work on the chapel.

Fire and Safety

Fire Chief Kevin Wylie said ladders will be tested on Monday, November 28.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve a mileage reimbursement and stipend for fire department members as presented for a total of $6,050 to be paid out in December. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Zoning

Matt Montowski made a motion to adopt a new Application for Zoning Certificate as presented with a couple minor language changes. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski said Walter Wehenkel’s final day as zoning inspector was November 22 and he shared a proclamation signed by the Trustees as presented to him on his last day. Matt Montowski said Todd Bickley is the new zoning inspector as recently appointed.

New Business

William Rofkar said the Reorganization for 2017 will take place during the final regular business meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
