Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees

Meeting Minutes

January 24, 2017

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski Tuesday, January 24, at 7:45 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Trustees: Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, and William Rofkar;
Fiscal Officer Karen Shaw; Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow; Police Chief John Gangway; Fire Chief Kevin Wylie; also attending were Diane Belden, Randy Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the January 10, 2017 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll in the amount of $49,042.07. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A request from James Stewart to use the Community Hall, front room only, for a family event on February 4, and February 19, 2017.

The Trustees agreed James Stewart could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

A letter from Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney James VanEerten and Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick regarding the Ottawa County Drug Task Force Funding and request for a contribution proportionate to the population in our political subdivision.

A letter from the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District regarding a variety of trees being offered to Ottawa County townships, villages and cities at a 10% discount.

Annual notification from Virginia Park, Ottawa County Recorder, regarding Zoning Resolutions and Amendments per the Ohio Revised Code. The fees are $50 for a resolution and $20 for an amendment.

Fire

Fire Chief Kevin Wylie said Louis Wargo would like to attend fire school and asked if the Trustees would be willing to reimburse him for all or a portion of his expenses.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve reimbursement for half of the total expenses, not to exceed $1,200, for Louis Wargo to attend fire school. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway presented a quote for an in-car camera system from Watch Guard for $4,770 for use in the new police utility vehicle.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the purchase of an in-car camera system for the new police utility vehicle for $4,770 from Watch Guard. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

John Gangway presented a quote from Stop Stick, LTD for $1,846 for four Stop Stick Kits.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the purchase of four Stop Stick Kits from Stop Stick LTD for $1,846. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar said the 2011 Police Crown Victoria sold on GovDeals.com for $3,005.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented a quote from Valley Ford Truck, Inc. for $48,732 for a 2017 Ford F-550 and a quote from JUDCO Truck Equipment for a Henderson Model Mark Three Stainless Steel Dump Body and related equipment for $43,385.

Gary Mortus made a motion to contract with Valley Ford Truck, at the state bid program cost, for a 2017 Ford F550 per provided quote for $48,732. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Gary Mortus made a motion to contract with JUDCO Truck Equipment, at the state bid program cost, for a Henderson Dump Body per provided quote for $43,385. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar said he spoke with the building inspector and the sanitary engineer regarding the chapel restrooms. He said there were no major concerns and the cost to hook up to water and sewer would be approximately $1,200 if that is the direction taken.

Other Business

Matt Montowski read a letter from Lisa Brohl regarding the Lake Erie Islands Water Trail guide.

Karen Shaw read an email from Ottawa County Auditor Larry Hartlaub regarding the Local Government Innovation Grant awarded to the county to study the viability of expanding the Geographic Information System (GIS) and thanking township officials for their support in the project.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
