Meeting Minutes

May 23, 2017

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Matt Montowski Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Karen Shaw, Dan Barlow, John Gangway, Kevin Wylie, Ernest Wylie, Craig Koerpel, William Van Der Giessen,
Rick Smetzer, and Randy Riedmaier.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the May 9, 2017 Board of Township Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the last payroll, in the amount of $52,054.11. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter from Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney James VanEerten and Drug Task Force members expressing gratitude for the contribution to the Task Force and assurance the money will be used towards efforts to enforce the drug laws in Ottawa County and Catawba Island Township.

Fire

Fire Chief Kevin Wylie said he would like the township to sell the fire department’s 19 foot steel fire boat built by Lakecraft in 1961 on GovDeals.com. He said the fire pump and motor are included.

Gary Mortus made a motion to sell the surplus 19 foot steel fire boat on GovDeals.com. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Trustees agreed the fire department has permission to take a fire truck to participate in the Walleye Festival Parade if they so desire.

New Business

Craig Koerpel spoke on behalf of the Catawba Island Historical Society and submitted a lease agreement for Trustees to review in regard to the historical society leasing the Union Chapel from the township for the purpose of presenting Catawba Island artifacts to the public.

A lengthy discussion took place regarding the process by which chapel repairs and contracted work will be approved and carried out.

Trustees asked Police Chief John Gangway to post a clarification regarding golf carts on the Catawba Island Township Police Facebook page. John Gangway agreed to post and in addition prepare and distribute a one page flyer to homeowners associations and individuals with questions regarding golf carts.

Gary Mortus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
