Meeting Minutes

March 27, 2018

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Board of Township Trustees was called to order by Chairman Gary Mortus on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:55 p.m. in the conference room.

In attendance were Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, John Gangway, Dan Barlow, William Moore Jr., Larry Cleveland, Kathleen Cleveland, Sharon Sanger, Richard Norgard,
Rick Smetzer, Diane Belden, Randy Riedmaier, Sarah Riedmaier, and Jack DeVore

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

William Rofkar made a motion to approve the March 6, 2018 Special Meeting minutes and the March 13, 2018 Board of Trustees regular meeting minutes as presented. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills, including the payroll, in the amount of $49,732.22. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Correspondence

A letter from Robert Christiansen, Jr. requesting use of the Community Hall Sunday, April 8, for a family function.

The Trustees agreed Robert Christiansen could use the Community Hall and waived the fee.

An email from Craig Koerpel of the Catawba Island Historical Society requesting use of the Community Hall Wednesday, June 13, to host a reception for current and prospective members.

The Trustees agreed the CIHS could use the Community Hall for the event and waived the fee.

A letter from Cheri Schraidt requesting use of the Community Hall June 16 for a Lake and Bay Nautical Décor and Handcraft Show and again December 1 for a Christmas Arts and Craft Show. Both events are fundraisers with a portion of the proceeds being committed to the Ottawa County Fraternal Order of Police Association.

The Trustees agreed Cheri Schraidt could use the Community Hall for each of the scheduled events for the fundraising event fee of $60 each.

A memo from Larry Durivage expressing thanks to the Trustees for listening to his concerns regarding the Ottawa County Board of Health and for representation at the recent election for new members on the Ottawa County Board of Health.

A letter from the Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control giving notice that all permits to sell alcoholic beverages will expire June 1, 2018 and that each permit holder must file a renewal application.

William Rofkar made a motion to waive a hearing for permit renewals. Matt Montowski seconded the motion. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Police

Police Chief John Gangway said he would like to host an Ottawa County Chiefs of Police Association meeting in the township conference room on a Thursday at 1 p.m. in the near future.

Trustees agreed to the use of the conference room as needed.

Maintenance

Maintenance Supervisor Dan Barlow presented a quote for five smoke detectors to be installed in the administration building from Catawba Security LLC for $899.70.

Matt Montowski made a motion to have Catawba Security LLC install five smoke detectors in the administration building not to exceed $1,000. Gary Mortus seconded the motion. Vote on motion: Gary Mortus, aye; Matt Montowski, aye; William Rofkar, abstain. Motion carried.

Zoning

Matt Montowski said the zoning department will host a training session Wednesday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room.

New Business

Gary Mortus reported information from his attendance at the Ottawa County Board of Health meeting including that activities for Catawba Island Township were 854 for the year 2017 out of a total of 15,529.

Matt Montowski made a motion to adjourn the meeting. William Rofkar seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
