CATAWBA ISLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
MINUTES – DECEMBER 22, 2009

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Board of Township Trustees was called to order by chairman William Rofkar at 7:30 p.m. on December 22, 2009 in the conference room.

The following were in attendance: William Rofkar, Robert Schroeder, Gary Mortus, Jack DeVore, Matt Montowski, James Stouffer, Dan Barlow. Reggie Langford, John Gangway, Robert Rogers and Pat Cerny. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

Gary Mortus made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting seconded by Robert Schroeder. Motion carried unanimously.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $97,989.60 seconded by Gary Mortus. Robert Schroeder, aye; Gary Mortus, aye; William Rofkar aye. Payment Register will be attached to these minutes.

Correspondence included Health Insurance Renewal, February 1, 2009, from Ohio Insurance Services Agency, Inc. with a recommendation to renew as is for 2010 and then do another complete review of the plan in 2011.

Thank you letter from the Stouffer Family and friends at the Catawba Island Club recognizing the service of Mr. Robert Schroeder, Catawba Island Township Trustee for his years of service.

John Gangway, Catawba Island Township Fire Chief, would like to purchase a new hose strainer for truck 221 not to exceed $680.00.
Chief Gangway also stated the front suspension on the Scout needs repair and can be repaired for $3000.00. The Trustees concur.

Dan Barlow, Maintenance Supervisor, received a price from Agro regarding a tailgate 65 gallon poly tank with a 12 volt pump for ice bite beet juice de-icer to work in conjunction with road salt. The price is $2600.00 and the totes of the de-icer is two totes, 540 gallons, priced at $1350.00 the total being just under $4000.00. William Rofkar thinks it is a good program. Gary Mortus would like to look the prices over. William Rofkar stated this will be tabled until the next meeting.

Dan Barlow stated the grass sweeper needs replacement. A new one is between $13,000.00 and $15,000.00Dan Barlow stated the maintenance department can rebuild it this winter in house for approximately $3000.00. Dan Barlow would also like to replace the dock risers and the table tops at the community hall with formica.
Dan Barlow would also like to purchase three exit lights for the maintenance shop for when there is power failure.

Reggie Langford, as a citizen of Catawba Island, would like to thank, applaud and salute Robert Schroeder for his dedicated service to the community and all his accomplishments.

James Stouffer would like to thank the township for being so fiscally conservative in managing the funds as this usually goes unmentioned. He feels very blest to be in this community and again thanks Robert Schroeder for his service.

Gary Mortus thanked Mr. Schroeder for his years of leadership, his fire department duties and zoning commission duties.

Robert Schroeder stated zoning has always been important to him and he is not happy with the way the prosecutor’s office is handling a few of our zoning issues. He feels a good attorney should be hired to represent us. The case that was dismissed will be reviewed.

Pat Cerny received an e-mail from Jerry Davenport, Davenport Sign & Art, regarding repainting the Administration Building sign and re-making the smaller signs out of PVC board, and re-caulking the body of the sign including changing the name at the Launch Ramp and Administration building for $875.00. Time to complete; five working days from removal to re-install.

William Rofkar said John Moore will be in attendance at our next Trustee meeting. William Rofkar would like to wait on renewing the healthcare insurance until next meeting.

William Rofkar stated on behalf of the Board of Trustees, he would like to recognize Robert Schroeder’s twenty years as trustee and on behalf of the people in this township he deserves a thank you.

Robert Schroeder made a motion to adjourn seconded by Gary Mortus. All voted aye.
