CATAWBA ISLAND TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
MAY 25, 2010 MEETING MINUTES

The regular business meeting of the Catawba Island Township Trustees was called to order by chairman Gary Mortus at 7:30 p.m. on May 25, 2010 in the conference room.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all.

In attendance: Gary Mortus, Matt Montowski, William Rofkar, Pat Cerny, Greg Russell, Jack DeVore, Jim Stouffer, Austin Rospert, Becky Swisher, Sandy Burt, John Gangway, Dan Barlow and Keith Fisher.

Pat Cerny read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved as read.

Pat Cerny read the minutes of the public hearing from April 27, 2010, and May 11, 2010 regarding the John Woods rezoning application. William Rofkar made a motion to approve the minutes seconded by Matt Montowski. William Rofkar, aye; Matt Montowski, aye; Gary Mortus, aye, with one correction.

Matt Montowski made a motion to approve and pay the bills in the amount of $34,698.77 seconded by William Rofkar. Matt Montowski, aye; William Rofkar, aye; Gary Mortus, aye.

Correspondence received:
Sheriff Robert L. Bratton, Sheriff of Ottawa County expressing appreciation for the township’s financial contribution and support of the Marine Patrol Program.

Kalida Truck Equipment announcing the addition of Bob Meyers as head of Quality Control plus an equipment price list.

Bumbera Design thank you for the opportunity to work with the township again and also included a flyer depicting examples of their work.

Jack Mortus requesting the rental fee be waived for the use of the Community Hall for a family reunion due to his many years of service on the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department.

Robert J. Hille, County Treasurer notifying the taxing authority of the township their share in the proceeds of two estates.

Joint Solid Waste Management District Solid Waste Management Plan Update Ratification.

Invitation to tenth anniversary open house, for the Ottawa County Community Foundation, Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore, Ohio.

Austin Rospert attended the meeting for a school government report.

Becky Swisher and Sandy Burt, from the Hylant Group, Ohio Plan Risk Management, Inc. presenting our insurance renewal proposal of $47,802.02. Ms. Swisher also explained the difference between her company and the OTARMA coverage when an incident occurs.

Fire Chief John Gangway informed the Board there is an 800 radio meeting, Thursday, May 27. Truck 230 is at the Ford Dealer getting the rear fuel tank replaced. The fire boat will be in the water before the holiday weekend.

Dan Barlow stated he has the proposals for the roofing project and the Gem Beach project and the Trustees have been given copies. The biggest priority building would be the maintenance building and the pavilion. Gary Mortus commended Dan Barlow for the excellent job putting together the bid specifications. The bids will be looked at and
a decision will be made for the next business meeting. The Engineer’s office will help in redesigning the drainage where the conduit was installed and tie the catch basins together.

The basketball courts at Heigel Park along with the tennis courts will be pressure washed this week and then they will be worked on in about a month. A new seat is also needed for the back-hoe which will be taken care of.

The oak tree in the cemetery needs a good trimming to remove the dead in it. A tree trimmer will look at it and by the next meeting.

Dan Barlow spoke with Joe Verb from the County Garage and requested to use their equipment to push the brush pile back as there is no room to do anymore grinding and keep the loading program going as long as we can.

Gary Mortus stated there is a line of site problem in Gem Beach off of Elmwood in the White City Beach area as you pull out of Elmwood onto Twin Beach there are some spruce trees on the road right of way. They need to be cut back to the pole line or back to the right of way. Gary will try to make contact with the property owner prior to the township trimming them. They will be trimmed so we get a line of site back. Gary Mortus also stated he spoke with the County Engineer about this and he said to cut them back to the right of way and do it properly by talking to the owner first and if he is not cooperative, just procede trim them. Greg Russell requested a copy of any correspondence sent to the owner.

William Rofkar made a motion to waive the community hall rental fee
for Jack Mortus seconded by Matt Montowski. William Rofkar, aye; Matt Montowski, aye; Gary Mortus, abstain.

Pat Cerny read correspondence from Kim and Liz Skrinak in regard to an accessory building at 4212 E. Park in the Cliffs stating the structure is not in compliance with the setbacks. Pat Cerny stated she wrote the owner another letter.

Gary Mortus stated there is a resident in the Krempa area that would like to have the soccer nets moved more toward the hill. At one time they were moved, but it looks like they are back again. William Rofkar stated it will be moved next season as it has been painted already and set up.

Gary Mortus made a motion that we advertise the dump truck on govdeals.com for a miniumum bid of $25,000.00 seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye.

Matt Montowski stated he and Pat Cerny drafted a letter to Marine Max stating at this point in time their temporary parking resolution is acceptable to the Trustees.

William Rofkar made a motion to adjourn seconded by Matt Montowski. All voted aye.
